Rhineland-Palatinate: LfDI Rhineland-Palatinate issues statement on data transfers under draft Brexit agreement

The Rhineland-Palatinate data protection authority ('LfDI Rhineland-Palatinate') issued, on 29 December 2020, a statement on data transfers to the UK under the draft Brexit agreement and the four-month transition period for data transfers from 1 January 2021 provided therein. In particular, the LfDI Rhineland-Palatinate noted that the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information, Dr. Dieter Kugelmann, noted that transfers to the UK are initially still possible under the previous conditions. Specifically, Dr. Dieter Kugelmann highlighted "[…] Serious difficulties for companies concerned are thus avoided for the time being. But companies shouldn't run out of steam. It is important to prepare for the end of the transition period in order to adjust business processes if necessary […]".
