Republic of North Macedonia: DZLP launches investigation into legality of processing by ministries following failure to notify hacker attack

The Directorate for Personal Data Protection ('DZLP') announced, on 12 August 2020, that it had launched an investigation into the legality of the activities undertaken in the processing of personal data by the Ministry of Education and Science and the Ministry of Health ('the Ministries') following a hacker attack on their websites on 23 July 2020. In particular, the DZLP highlighted that, due to the fact that the Ministries had failed to notify it in accordance with Article 37(1) of the Law on Personal Data Protection 2020 ('the Law') of the data breach, the DZLP will ex officio investigate whether the data processing of the Ministries complies with the provisions of the Law.
