Quebec: Bill seeking data protection reform introduced to National Assembly
The bill for An Act to Modernise Legislative Provisions as Regards the Protection of Personal Information ('the Bill') was introduced, on 12 June 2020, to the National Assembly of Quebec. In particular, the Bill would seek to provide proposed amendments to the Quebec public sector and private sector privacy laws. In addition, the Bill seeks to reform requirements for the private sector in areas such as, among others, data breach reporting, the appointment of a person responsible for implementing the personal information protection measures, and the requirement to conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments ('DPIA').
