Puerto Rico: Bill on Electronic Information Privacy Act introduced in House of Representatives

The House Bill ('HB') 655 for the Electronic Information Privacy Act was introduced, on 20 April 2021, to the Puerto Rico House of Representatives. In particular, the bill seeks to, among other things, establish that a person does not waive their expectation of privacy regarding communications as a result of the information being stored on an electronic device or transmitted to a remote computer service provider and, therefore, a court order would be required to access it. In addition, the bill highlights that protected information includes records of communications, device location, and transmitted data.

You can read the bill here and track its progress here, both only avaliable in Spanish.
