Peru: ANPD issues statement on enforcement efforts in 2021

The National Authority for the Protection of Personal Data ('ANPD') issued, on 10 January 2022, a statement on enforcement actions taken in 2021. In particular, the ANPD noted, among other things, that over the course of 2021 it had audited a total of 335 entities for their compliance with Law No. 29.733 on the Protection of Personal Data 2011 ('the Law'). Moreover, the ANPD highlighted that it had initiated 132 sanctioning procedures, although also emphasised that several entities took corrective measures before the initiation of sanction procedures. Nevertheless, the ANPD detailed that it had imposed fines amounting to PEN 6,084,113 (approx. €1,364,210).

Finally, the ANPD also addressed the volume of queries it received, procedures carried out with respect to the National Registry, and various guidance documents and campaigns issued to facilitate compliance with the Law.
