North Rhine-Westphalia: LDI NRW issues guidance on digital teaching in schools

The North Rhine-Westphalia State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information ('LDI NRW') published, on 26 September 2022, its guidance on digital teaching in schools. In particular, the guidance aims to help schools find a balance between the practicality of systems for digital teaching and ensuring an appropriate level of data protection.

In that regard, the guidance covers, among other things:

  • who is responsible for what in terms of data protection;
  • requirements for teachers and pupils for data processing; and
  • a data protection-compliant use of digital systems and teaching software, video conference tools, and messenger services.

You can read the press release here and the guidance here, both only available in German.
