Nigeria: NITDA issues advisory on WhatsApp data breach

The National Information Technology Development Agency ('NITDA') announced on Twitter, on 30 November 2022, an advisory on the alleged WhatsApp LLC data breach. In particular, the NITDA noted that the alleged data leakage affected 500 million WhatsApp users' mobile phone numbers globally, including over 9 million Nigerian users. In this regard, the NITDA highlighted that its Computer Emergency Readiness and Response Team Unit is alerting the public, recommending that users enable two-factor authentication, not reveal personal information on their profile, and not respond to requests from untrusted and unknown contacts asking for personal information.
