Mongolia: Parliament announces discussion on draft data protection law
The Parliament of Mongolia announced, on 5 August 2021, that the Standing Committee on Innovation and e-Policy and the Standing Committee on Legal Affairs jointly discussed the Draft Law on the Protection of Personal Information. In particular, the draft law provides, among other things, grounds for the collection, processing, and use of personal and sensitive information, data subject rights, and responsibilities for data controllers in areas such as international data transfers. In addition, the draft law defines terms including biometric, health, and genetic data, as well as digital identifiers. Moreover, the draft law contains requirements for the usage of data processors such as stipulating that such relationship is to be governed by contract.
If passed the law will enter into force 1 November 2021.
