Mexico: INAI highlights need to protect patient data amid deficiencies by health sector during Coronavirus
The National Institute for Transparency, Access to Information and Personal Data Protection ('INAI') released, on 13 July 2020, a statement on the deficiences of the health sector in the treatment of the personal data of COVID-19 ('Coronavirus') patients. In particular, INAI noted that hospitals must protect patient databases which are transferred to other hospitals due to the Coronavirus pandemic. In addition, President of INAI, Francisco Javier Acuña Llamas, noted that the protection of personal data relating to health during a pandemic is an issue which should be analysed and discussed at the Global Privacy Assembly, due to be held in Mexico in 2021.
