Mauritius: Office publishes summary of decision on unlawful disclosure
The Data Protection Office ('the Office') published, on 26 June 2019, a summary ('the Summary') of its decision following a complaint that a company ('the Company') had unlawfully disclosed personal data of the complainant to a third party by sending an email containing their private details to an incorrect email address obtained during a telephone conversation with the complainant. Moreover, the Summary outlines that the Company has taken measures since the incident, which include providing clients with the Company's email address for account position requests instead of taking client email addresses by phone, encrypting and password protecting any confidential data sent to clients, and sending an apology to the complainant for the incident.
