Kazakhstan: Mazhilis passes digital technology regulation bill at first reading
The Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan ('the Mazhilis') passed, on 18 March 2020, the digital technology regulation bill ('the Bill') at first reading. In particular, the Bill enhances the digital strategy of Kazakhstan by introducing regulations and amendments in a wide range of fields including Big Data, artificial intelligence, financial services, and data protection. Furthermore, the Bill aims to either introduce a new body or establish an existing one as the data protection authority for the Republic of Kazakhstan, and further protect the privacy of its citizens.
