Jordan: Ministry announces draft AI strategy and implementation plan for public consultation
The Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship announced, on 7 August 2022, that it had published the draft Jordanian strategy for artificial intelligence ('AI') and its 2023-2027 implementation plan for public consultation. In particular, the Ministry provided that the Jordanian strategy for AI contains a clear vision that aspires to elevate Jordan to be one of the leading countries and to compete at the regional level in this field by creating a legislative, technological, and entrepreneurial environment that attracts investment in AI, and exploiting the national system supporting the adoption of AI techniques such as efficient Jordanian human resources. Furthermore, the Ministry highlighted that the following are the main objectives of the strategy set in line with the policy of AI:
- developing the system supporting AI;
- developing Jordanian skills and expertise in the field of AI;
- encouraging scientific research and development in the field of AI;
- enhancing the investment and entrepreneurship environment in the field of AI;
- ensuring the legislative and regulatory environment that supports the safe employment of AI; and
- applying AI tools to raise the efficiency of the public sector and other priority sectors.

Government approves Jordanian strategy for AI and its 2023-2027 implementation plan
The Ministry announced, on 30 October 2022, that the Government approved the Jordanian strategy for AI and its 2023-2027 implementation plan, which was prepared in cooperation with the EU, the United Nations Economic and Social Committee, and United Nations for Industrial Development, and in consultation with the relevant authorities from the public, private, and academic sectors. In particular, the Ministry highlighted that the strategy contains 68 projects related to the five main objectives of the strategy and a five year period that supports building the supportive system for AI in Jordan and focuses on the adoption of AI to develop the public and economic sectors.
