Japan: Mitsubishi issues statement on data breach affecting 8,635 accounts

Mitsubishi Electric Corporation issued, on 20 November 2020, a statement on a data breach in which an unauthorised third party gained access to a cloud service contracted by Mitsubishi. In particular, Mitsubishi confirmed that information of approximately 8,635 accounts had been accessed and that the information of domestic business partners had been leaked. In addition, Mitsubishi noted that the leaked information included business partner name, address, telephone number, representative name, financial institution name, account number, and account name. Further to this, Mitsubishi emphasised that it is investigating the content and cause of the unauthorised access and is working to strengthen its information security system.
