Japan: Initiatives addresses data breach affecting 65,000 customers and employees

Initiatives Co., Ltd. issued, on 24 March 2021, a statement in which it addressed a data breach potentially affecting the personal information of up to 65,000 customers and employees. In particular, Initiatives confirmed that the data leakage was due to unauthorised access to their server by a third party, resulting in the leaking of, among other things, address, name, phone number, and bank account information. Further to this, Initiatives emphasised that no secondary damage has been confirmed, such as unauthorised use of affected information. As a result of the incident, Initiatives noted that a detailed investigation is being conducted by system vendors and that it will consider further strengthening security measures and strive to prevent recurrence.
