Italy: Garante issues opinion on whistleblowing legislative decree

The Italian data protection authority ('Garante') announced, on 24 January 2023, in its monthly newsletter, that it had issued its opinion on the legislative decree to transpose into Italian law the Directive on the Protection of Persons who Report Breaches of Union Law (Directive (EU) 2019/1937) ('the Whistleblowing Directive'). In particular, the Garante noted that the draft legislative decree implemented almost all feedback that had been previously provided by the Garante to the Government, with particular regard to the notion of violation, the confidentiality obligations, and the revision of the maximum retention period for the records.

You can read the newsletter here and the opinion here, both only available in Italian.
