Ireland: DPC publishes statement on budget for 2022

The Data Protection Commission ('DPC') published, on 12 October 2021, a statement on the Government's Budget for 2022. In particular, the DPC noted that that they will receive an additional funding of €4.1 million, which increases the funding for the DPC for 2022 by 22% with a total funding of €23.2 million.

Moreover, the DPC emphasised that the workload of the DPC has continued to grow year-on-year, particularly in 2020 when the DPC received in excess of 35,000 contacts, including 10,000 telephone calls and 23,200 emails. Furthermore, the DPC highlighted that 10,151 individual cases were handled and over 60% of complaints lodged with the DPC in 2020 were concluded within the same calendar year.
