International: USA and UK sign Memorandum of Understanding on AI Safety

On April 2, 2024, the UK Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) and U.S. Department of Commerce (DoC) announced that on April 1, 2024, the UK and US had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on artificial intelligence (AI) safety.

In particular, the DoC highlighted that the MoU outlines plans to build a common approach to AI safety testing and sharing capabilities so that risks can be tackled effectively. Specifically, the DoC provided that at least one joint testing exercise will be conducted on a publicly accessible model and that personnel exchanges will be conducted between the UK and US AI Safety Institutes.
