International: Singapore signs and renews MoUs on data protection with Mexico and Australia

On December 1, 2023, the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) announced that it had signed, on the same date, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Institute for Transparency, Access to Information, and Personal Data Protection (INAI) of Mexico to strengthen cooperation on personal data protection. Further, on the same date, the PDPC renewed the MoU to deepen collaborations on personal data protection with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).

What is the scope of the MoU between the PDPC and INIA?

The PDPC stated, among other things, that the scope of collaboration includes the development of compatible data transfer mechanisms to facilitate trusted cross-border data flows and cooperation in facilitating technological innovation to enable trusted data flows. The PDPC and INAI will also exchange information, share best practices, and collaborate for research on emerging privacy and data protection issues and trends.

What is the scope of the MoU between the PDPC and the OAIC?

According to the PDPC, the scope of the MoU includes the continued sharing of experiences and the exchange of best practices on data protection. Additionally, the countries will provide exchanges of information and mutual assistance in cross-border personal data incidents that contravene each country's data protection legislation.
