International: OAS adopts report on data protection to be used as model law

The Inter-American Juridical Committee of the Organization of American States (OAS) adopted, on 23-27 March 2015, a report on the 'Protection of Personal Data' ('the Report'). The Report proposes 12 principles related to privacy and protection of personal data that could serve as a basis for formulating and adopting new laws defending the right of individuals to privacy.

Based in Rio de Janeiro, the OAS issued the Report in response to a request made by the 44th OAS General Assembly, held in June 2014 in Paraguay.
