International: OAIC and ICO open joint investigation into Clearview AI

The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner ('OAIC') and the UK's Information Commissioner's Office ('ICO') announced, on 9 July 2020, that they have opened a joint investigation into Clearview AI, Inc. In particular, both regulators highlighted that their investigation focuses on the company's use of 'scraped' data and biometrics of individuals, however, no more comments will be made while the investigation is ongoing. In addition, the two regulators announced that the investigation will be conducted under the Global Privacy Assembly's Global Cross Border Enforcement Cooperation Arrangement, and the MoU between the ICO and the OAIC.
