On June 12, 2024, the European Commission announced that the EU held a second Digital Dialogue with Australia. On this occasion, as highlighted by the Commission, Australia and the EU agreed to sign an Administrative Agreement to support the enforcement of social media regulations and increase systematic cooperation on platforms.

Furthermore, the two partners also exchanged information on artificial intelligence (AI), in particular on the entry into force of the Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act) and the setting up and role of the AI Office in guiding research and innovation activities, as well as on the international engagement on various aspects of AI.

Lastly, the Commission outlined that the EU and Australia agreed to explore ways to promote a human-centric data economy that is secure, interoperable, and trustworthy. Both also confirmed the importance of maintaining a global, open, stable, and secure cyberspace by protecting critical infrastructure and exchanging on ransomware and situational awareness.
