International: CRTC signs MoU on combatting unsolicited communications

On June 6, 2023, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC) announced that the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to combat unsolicited communications, including spam, scams, and telemarketing.

Signatories

The OPC confirmed that regulatory agencies from the following countries have also signed the MoU:

  • Australia;
  • South Korea;
  • the Netherlands;
  • the UK; and
  • New Zealand.

Furthermore, the OPC noted that the MoU is aimed at encouraging a framework to facilitate cross-jurisdictional cooperation, international strategic and operational engagement, as well as information-sharing between members.
