International: Authorities take first steps to create Lusophone Data Protection Network
On June 27, 2024, the Brazilian data protection authority (ANPD) announced, alongside data protection authorities from Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe, the National Commission of Data Protection (CNPD) of Cape Verde, and the National Database Protection Agency (APD) of Angola, that they have initiated the creation process of the Lusophone Data Protection Network (RLPD).
What are the objectives of the RLPD?
The CNPD highlighted that the objectives of the RLPD include:
- increasing cooperation between members;
- creating a permanent forum to exchange knowledge on data protection; and
- establishing international instruments for international data transfers.
Next steps
The ANPD noted that the authorities must now elaborate a statute for the RLPD.
