Iceland: Persónuvernd sends recommendations to Icelandic Financial Services Association on processing children's data for event organisation

The Icelandic data protection authority ('Persónuvernd') announced, on 25 February 2021, that it had sent a letter to the Icelandic Financial Services Association ('SFF') further to a request for guidance on the processing of children's data in the context of organising an event called 'Financial Games'. In particular, Persónuvernd noted that by requiring participants to register through Facebook, SFF had been encouraging the use of social media without examining the security and consequences for children, as well as highlighting the obligation to inform children and their guardians when they register for children's participation in the event. Further to the same, Persónuvernd recommended the use of solutions, other than Facebook, for registering to the event.

You can read the press release here and the letter here, both only available in Icelandic.
