Hungary: NAIH releases communication on processing of biometric data by Worldcoin

On April 9, 2024, the National Authority for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (NAIH) released a communication on the collection of biometric data, namely iris samples, by Worldcoin Foundation.

In particular, the NAIH clarified that Worldcoin does not operate in Hungary for the time being, and it has not received complaints on the matter. However, the NAIH highlighted that the collection of iris samples allows unique identification of an individual and must be qualified as biometric data, which warrants particular caution from the individuals concerned when providing consent to such processing.
