Hong Kong: PCPD releases 2021-22 Annual Report

The Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data ('PCPD') released, on 9 November 2022, its annual report for 2021-22. In particular, the report summarises the work priorities of the PCPD for 2021-22, including the prudent use of social media, the promotion of ethical standards in the development and use of artificial intelligence, and the issuance of recommendations on the protection of personal data privacy related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Further to this, the report noted that the PCPD:

  • received 3,368 complaints;
  • handled 1,351 doxxing cases;
  • initiated 96 investigations; and
  • received 142 data breach notifications.
