Hawaii: Bill relating to consumer data protection passes first reading in House of Representatives

Senate Bill 974 Relating to Consumer Data Protection passed, on 9 March 2023, its first reading in the Hawaii House of Representatives and was thereafter referred to the House Committee on Economic Development, House Committee on Consumer Protection & Commerce, and House Committee on Finance. In particular, the bill aims to establish a framework to regulate controllers and processors' access to personal consumer data and introduces penalties, as well as a new consumer privacy special fund.
