Guernsey: ODPA releases data breach statistics for January to March 2023

The Office of the Data Protection Authority ('ODPA') released, on 6 April 2023, its latest breach statistics for the period between January and March 2023. In particular, the ODPA noted that 38 personal data breaches had been reported.

Moreover, the ODPA announced that it is also now publishing data breach severity, which organisations designate when reporting an incident. In this context, the ODPA specified that the Data Protection (Bailiwick of Guernsey) Law, 2017 ('the Law') requires organisations to report breaches where there is a risk to the 'significant interests' of any person whose data has been affected by the incident, and further stated that when an organisation reports a breach it is asked to provide an indication as to how serious it considers the breach to be.
