Greece: HDPA implements byDesign project to facilitate GDPR compliance

The Office for the Protection of Personal Data for the Slovak Republic ('ÚOOÚ') announced, on 28 December 2022, that the Hellenic Data Protection Authority ('HDPA') implemented the byDesign project to facilitate compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2016/679) ('GDPR'). In particular, the ÚOOÚ noted that the project is specifically designed for small and medium-sized enterprises ('SMEs') and to promote data protection in SME products and services related to ICT.

Moreover the ÚOOÚ highlighted that the project is funded by the EU and can be useful for Slovak SMEs as well. In addition, the ÚOOÚ outlined that the aim of the project is to:

  • offer an online set of tools tailored especially for SMEs, which, together with a set of basic document templates, can help them implement the measures necessary to comply with the GDPR;
  • develop a specifically designed comprehensive data protection training program targeting developers and other stakeholders of ICT products and services; and
  • train professionals, as well as university students, which would lead to an increase in data protection culture across the ICT spectrum in Greece.
