Germany: BSI and BWI GmbH agree closer cooperation

The Federal Office for Information Security ('BSI') announced, on 20 December 2021, that it and BWI GmbH had concluded a memorandum of understanding ('MoU') to deepen their cooperation. In particular, the BSI stated that the BWI is the IT housing system for the German Armed Forces, while also acting as an IT operations service provider for federal authorities. In addition, the BSI highlighted that the core element of the MoU is the common intention to work closer together in the detection and defense of cyber attacks. Furthermore, the BSI noted that it and the BWI will also cooperate on security-relevant topics beyond concrete attacks, including warning and informing target groups, but also on future topics such as artificial intelligence ('AI') in information security.
