Germany: BfDI issues statement on GDPR evaluation
The Federal Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information ('BfDI') issued, on 26 June 2020, a statement ('the Statement') on the European Commission's ('the Commission') communication to the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union on the two years of application of the General Data Protection Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2016/679) ('GDPR'). In particular, the BfDI criticised that the Commission did not sufficiently address insufficiencies in the GDPR with regards to supervisory cooperation and coherence. Moreover, the BfDI highlighted that amendments with regards to scoring and profiling remain to be addressed.
