Florida: Bill on social media use by minors amended in Fiscal Policy Committee

On February 15, 2024, House Bill 1 introducing an act relating to social media use for minors was amended in the Fiscal Policy Committee and scheduled for second reading on February 21, 2024.

In particular, the amendments added the concept of 'addictive features' meaning features that are designed to cause an account holder to have an excessive or compulsive need to use or engage with the social media platform. Additionally, the amended bill introduces a section for procedures for age verification for online access to materials harmful to minors.
