Finland: Ombudsman publishes its inspection plan for 2024
On April 2, 2024, the Office of the Data Protection Ombudsman (the Ombudsman) released its inspection plan for the year 2024, which highlights the areas and topics the Ombudsman aims to inspect.
The Ombudsman stated that 10 inspections are planned and examples of areas it will look at include:
- how data controllers manage access rights and supervise the processing of personal data in their operations;
- the account information system used by customs and the security information system of the defense forces;
- the processing of personal data related to intelligence;
- user management and access control in the processing of personal data in immigration;
- storage of personal data in parking enforcement; and
- atypical processing through log monitoring in health care patient information systems.
Additionally, the Ombudsman mentions that it may, as necessary, conduct ad hoc inspections in situations that arise during the year or handle individual complaints in addition to the items on the inspection plan.
