Europe: Belgian DPA approves IAB Europe's action plan
The Belgian Data Protection Authority ('Belgian DPA') updated, on 11 January 2023, its press release on its decision regarding Interactive Advertising Bureau ('IAB') Europe, in which it determined it had imposed a €250,000 fine for violations of the General Data Protection Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2016/679) ('GDPR'). Notably, the Belgian DPA confirmed that its Litigation Chamber had informed IAB Europe that it had approved its action plan aimed at bringing the processing of personal data in the context of the Transparency and Consent Framework into compliance with the provisions of the GDPR. In particular, this follows the Belgian DPA's order to IAB Europe to submit an action plan for the implementation of corrective measures. Accordingly, the Belgian DPA recalled that IAB Europe has a maximum of six months to implement the proposed measures.
In addition, the Belgian DPA noted that it will not be able to further communicate on the content of the action plan due to pending court proceedings.
