The European Payments Council ('EPC') announced, on 13 March 2023, the publication, on 7 March 2023, of the annual update of its Guidelines on Cryptographic Algorithms Usage and Key Management. In particular, the EPC outlined that the guidelines specify recommendations and best practices on cryptographic algorithms, security protocols, confidentiality and integrity protection, and key management.

Notably, the EPC highlighted that the new version of the guidelines contains updates related to quantum computing and distributed ledger technologies, among other things.
