EU: Commission signs administrative arrangement with Australian eSafety Commissioner on enforcement of social media regulations

On June 11, 2024, the European Commission announced that it signed an administrative arrangement with the Australian eSafety Commissioner to support the enforcement of regulations on online platforms. The administrative arrangement will support both authorities' supervisory work relating to the Digital Services Act (DSA) and the Australian Online Safety Act of 2021, and covers areas such as:

  • transparency and accountability of online platforms;

  • risk assessment and mitigation, particularly with illegal content;

  • algorithms and artificial intelligence (AI); and

  • age-appropriate design and age verification.
