Egypt: NTRA issues regulatory framework for IoT service provision

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology ('MCIT') announced, on 13 January 2022, that, in line with Egypt's strategy to support digital transformation and boost investments in this field, the National Telecom Regulatory Authority ('NTRA') had issued a regulatory framework for providing Internet of Things ('IoT') services in Egypt ('the Framework'). In particular, the announcement states that the Framework was created and introduced as a regulatory tool that facilitates IoT service operations and is aimed at attracting investments to build IoT networks and advanced application platforms, creating IoT-enabled systems in different sectors to automate operations and render electronic services to citizens.

Moreover, the announcement states that the framework is in line with Egypt Vision 2030, which involves building cities such as the New Administrative Capital. In this regard, the announcement notes that the Framework will help create cutting edge systems in smart cities and communities in a way that helps transform traditional systems to smart ones, to ultimately facilitate citizens’ access to services.
