Denmark: Digitaliseringsstyrelsen publishes report on mobile gaming apps

On March 22, 2024, the Danish Digital Agency (Digitaliseringsstyrelsen) published its report titled 'How much does a free mobile game cost?' in which it analyzed 24 of the most popular free game apps in Denmark available on the Apple app store. The analysis looked at which third-party services collect personal data for targeted marketing purposes via these apps.

Findings

Despite tracking, data collection, cookies, etc. being rejected where possible, the Digitaliseringsstyrelsen found that all 24 analyzed apps allow for third-party services to collect personal data for marketing and profiling purposes. Additionally, it was found that Facebook collected data from all of the apps analyzed, Google and AppLovin collected data from 95% of the apps, and TikTok collected data from 40% of the apps, despite users not having profiles on such platforms.

You can read the press release here and the report here, both only available in Danish.
