Croatia: HAKOM announces entry into force of Electronic Communications Act
The Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network Industries ('HAKOM') announced, on 12 July 2022, that the new Electronic Communications Act (Official Gazette No. 76/22) ('the Act') entered into force on 1 July 2022. In particular, the HAKOM noted that the Act takes over Directive (EU) 2018/1972 of the European Parliament and the Council of 11 December 2018 on the European Electronic Communications Code, which represents the codification and comprehensive reform of the EU's regulatory framework in the field of electronic communications.
Moreover, HAKOM highlighted that the Act will enable the accelerated development of electronic communications networks that will ensure the necessary connectivity and availability of very large capacity networks, including fixed, mobile, and wireless networks and their use by all citizens and entrepreneurs. In addition, HAKOM provided that the development of market competition is expected, both in the area of infrastructure and in the area of service provision, by ensuring the conditions for new investments in electronic communications networks and services.
