China: CAC releases notification on illegal collection and use of personal information by 33 apps
The Cybersecurity Administration of China ('CAC') released, on 1 May 2021, a notification on the illegal collection and use of personal information by 33 apps as a result of strong complaints about the illegal acquisition, over-range collection, and other infringements of personal information on apps. In particular, the CAC highlighted that some apps that are commonly used by the public such as input method and map navigation apps were tested. In regard to apps where a problem was detected, the CAC noted that the relevant app operators should, within 10 working days of the notification, complete the required rectification and submit a rectification report to the network data administration.
