California: Bill amending CCPA takes effect

Assembly Bill ('AB') 694 on privacy and consumer protection entered, on 1 January 2022, into effect, following its approval by the California Governor on 5 October 2021. In particular, the bill amends certain provisions of the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 ('CCPA') by adding and amending various definitions under Section 1798.140 of the CCPA. Furthermore, the bill makes amendments to the exceptions under Section 1798.145 of the CCPA, and clarifies provisions under the California Privacy Rights Act of 2020 with respect to the timing of the rulemaking authority of the California Privacy Protection Agency.
