Bavaria: BayLfD issues statement on data protection and spelling correction in web browsers

The Bavarian data protection authority (BayLfD) published, on July 1, 2023, a statement on data protection and spelling correction in web browsers. The statement outlines that writing support in web browsers can use artificial intelligence (AI) to make suggestions for improvement, which can lead to the transmission of personal data to the browser provider.

In its statement, the BayLfD advised Bavarian public bodies that use browsers with AI-supported correction functions should adjust such browsers in accordance with data protection requirements.

You can read the statement, only available in German, here.
