Bangladesh: Government enacts Cybersecurity Act 2023

On September 18, 2023, the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division published the Cybersecurity Act, 2023. In particular, the Cybersecurity Act repeals the Digital Security Act, 2018, to ensure cybersecurity and to make new provisions for the detection, prevention, suppression, and prosecution of crimes committed through digital or electronic means and related matters.

More specifically, the Cybersecurity Act constitutes the National Cyber Security Agency and the National Cyber Security Council and lays down their powers and functions. Further, the Cybersecurity Act provides details on security monitoring and inspection of critical information infrastructure and states that the Government may, by notification in the Government Gazette, declare any computer system, network, or information infrastructure to be a critical information infrastructure.

You can read the Cybersecurity Act, only available in Bangla, here.
