Asia-Pacific Bodies: ASEAN members agree to strengthen Industry 4.0 cooperation

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations ('ASEAN') published, on 2i November 2019, a statement announcing that the ASEAN Member States had agreed to strengthen cooperation in order to advance the ASEAN transformation to Industry 4.0 ('the Statement'). In particular, the Statement highlights the importance of sharing information, experience and best practices on formulating and implementing policies on the adoption and use of technologies that promote Industry 4.0, such as the Internet of Things ('IoT'), Big Data, cloud-based technology, and artificial intelligence.

In addition, the Statement outlines that the Member States should cooperate to develop a favourable regulatory framework by, among other things, collaborating with international organisations, promoting and facilitating the conformance and certification of digital standards, facilitating cross-border data flows and developing a common platform.
