Asia-Pacific Bodies: ASEAN issues statement on transnational crime

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations ('ASEAN') issued, on 4 November 2019, the East Asia Summit ('EAS') Leaders' Statement on cooperation to combat transnational crime ('the Statement'). In particular, the Statement, among other things, reaffirms the EAS participating countries' continuing cooperation in combating transnational crime, and calls for enhanced cooperation in combating money laundering and terrorism financing. In addition, the Statement calls for EAS countries to implement relevant international instruments, exchange best practices, enhance investigative, prosecutorial and judicial cooperation, and train and build the capacity of law enforcement personnel.
