Argentina: AAIP publishes 2021 annual report

The Argentinian data protection authority ('AAIP') published, on 20 January 2022, its annual report for 2021. In particular, the report highlights, among other things, that:

  • as of 31 December 2021, 8,414 requests for access to information were recorded, which was 40% higher than requests made in 2020;
  • most of the access to information requests were made to the Ministry of Health, which received 1,383 requests; the Ministry of Economy, which received 1,258 requests; and the Ministry of Interior which received 819 requests;
  • 531 claims were filed with the AAIP which was 62% more than the claims filed in 2020;
  • the AAIP processed 4,192 requests with respect to the National Registry of Databases; and
  • 12,664 complaints were made with respect to the National Do Not Call Registry.

Additionally, the report noted that 83 sanctioning resolutions were signed for violations of both the Personal Data Protection Act, Act No. 25.326 of 2000, and Law 26.951 on the creation of the National Do Not Call Registry.
