Argentina: AAIP announces approval of Convention 108+

The Argentinian data protection authority ('AAIP') announced, on 30 November 2022, that, following the approval of Law No. 27.699 on the Protection of Persons Regarding the Automated Processing of Personal Data ('Law No. 27.699') ratifying the Protocol amending the Convention for the Protection of Individuals with regard to Automatic Processing of Personal Data ('Convention 108+'), on 10 November 2022, by the Chamber of Deputies of Argentina, Law No. 27.699 was enacted. In particular, the AAIP noted that Law No. 27.699 was enacted on 30 November 2022, following its publication in the Official Gazette.

Moreover, the AAIP highlighted that Law No. 27.699 was sent to the Senate of Argentina on 12 June 2020 and did not obtain the necessary approval until November 2022.

Furthermore, the AAIP emphasised that Argentina had ratified the Convention for the Protection of Individuals with regard to Automatic Processing of Personal Data ('Convention 108') in 2019, and is the 33rd country to sign Convention 108+.
