Albania: National Assembly approves 2021 annual report

The Office of the Information and Data Protection Commissioner ('IDP') announced, on 28 April 2022, that the annual report has been approved by the National Assembly of Albania which has adopted the resolution 'On the evaluation of the work of the Commissioner for the Right to Information and Protection of Personal Data for 2021'. In particular, the resolution outlines the following requests of the Assembly to be fulfilled by the IDP as part of its duties in 2022:

  • monitor and supervise the implementation of legislation on personal data protection with a focus on technical and organisational measures for secure processing, especially Information Security Management Systems ('ISMS'), extending to other sectors, such as insurance, non-bank finance, and direct marketing;
  • engage in the creation of a network of employees for the protection of personal data, dictated by the improvement of national legislation in this field; and
  • ensure active participation as a member of the Executive Committee of the International Conference of Information Commissioners ('ICIC') and continue its active involvement in other international bodies.

You can read the press release here and the resolution here, both only available in Albanian.
