Albania: IDP organises event for businesses on right to information and protection of personal data

The Office of the Information and Data Protection Commissioner ('IDP') announced, on 13 May 2022, that it held a workshop in cooperation with the German Association of Industry and Trade in Albania ('DIHA') on the right to information and protection of personal data in the field of business. In particular, the IDP clarified that the participants, consisting of representatives from entities/member companies, were informed on among other things:

  • the role, functions, and competencies of the IDP, as well as the main directions of the supervisory activity;
  • the right to information and the protection of personal data, which are based on the principles of ethics, accountability, integrity, and transparency; and
  • the concrete regulatory obligations of public authorities and private controllers to be fulfilled in order to facilitate the exercise in practice of these rights by citizens.

Furthermore, the IDP highlighted the importance of proactive transparency of public institutions as one of the main directions for a dynamic administration and the necessary technical and organisational measures for the secure processing of personal data as an even bigger necessity in the digital age.
