Summary: The right to privacy is recognised under §995.50 of the Wisconsin Statutes & Annotations ('WI Stat'). In addition, there are various provisions within the WI Stat that regulate matters such as telephone records, disposal of records containing personal information, and unauthorised acquisition of personal information. According to the data breach notification law in Wisconsin, whenever an entity that collects personal information becomes aware that an unauthorised person has acquired the information, the business shall notify the affected individuals. Additionally, if the entity is required to notify 1,000 or more individuals as the result of a single breach, they must notify all consumer reporting agencies that compile and maintain files on consumers on a nationwide basis.
